2 days trip from Marrakech to Zagora desert

Day 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Zagora

We begin our journey after breakfast, departing from Marrakech towards the High Atlas Mountains. Our route takes us across the Tizi n’Tichka pass, which stands at an impressive altitude of 2,260 meters. The journey through this mountain pass offers breathtaking views of the rugged landscape. Our first stop is the historic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its ancient architecture and its role as a backdrop in many famous films. We will have lunch here, allowing time to explore the kasbah’s intricate alleyways and learn about its rich history.

Continuing south, we traverse the scenic Anti Atlas Mountains, passing through the traditional Berber village of Agdz and the lush Draa Valley, known for its extensive palm groves and ancient kasbahs. We arrive in Zagora around 4 pm and switch from our 4×4 vehicle to camels for an authentic desert experience. Riding through the golden dunes, we witness the serene beauty of the desert sunset. Our day concludes with an overnight stay in a traditional nomadic tent, offering a unique glimpse into the lifestyle of the desert dwellers.

Day 2: Zagora – Marrakech

We start our day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on our return journey. We ride our 4×4 vehicle back towards Ouarzazate, retracing our steps through the majestic Atlas Mountains and the picturesque Draa Valley. Along the way, we visit the Kasbah Taourirt, an impressive fortress that once served as a strategic stronghold and residence of the Glaoui family. The kasbah’s maze of rooms and passageways provides a fascinating insight into the region’s history and architectural heritage.

After our visit, we continue our drive through the diverse landscapes of the Atlas Mountains, eventually arriving back in Marrakech in the afternoon. This marks the end of our two-day adventure, filled with stunning scenery, cultural encounters, and unforgettable experiences.
